There are many things in the world that seem to be beyond our control. It’s hard to live with a positive attitude if you feel you have no control over your life.

Most important is control of ourselves! That is the one thing in life that we can have mastery over. One study that showed the importance of self-control followed 1,000 children from birth to age 32. Those who continued to exhibit the highest amount of self-control throughout their lives were less likely to develop health problems, have a substance addiction, have a low income, or commit a crime.

A person with self-control understands that beliefs and actions make a difference. It’s not a matter of having a false belief that we can control everything in our lives, but rather looking at situations and challenges and believing that our attitudes and actions have an impact. This results in less stress, more proactive behavior, and more opportunities to succeed.

“Control” is one of our fundamental SOM principles: We believe in the control of conditions through the use of this Mind.
